Painted boats of 1944

Published: Wednesday, 06 June 2012

THERE is a unique chance to see a film of the canal boats of the waterways as they were nearly 70 years ago, in the presentation of Painted Boats.

The film is to have just a single screening at Whaley Water Weekend on the Saturday at its three days event at Whaley Bridge from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th June, and Keith Hufton writes:

Great interest

We have a film presentation on Saturday which should be of great interest to the waterways narrowboat community, with Jenny Laird in Painted Boats, Ealing Studios 1944.

Charles Crichton, one of Ealing Studios' most popular film makers, directs this charming tale. Filmed in 1944, Painted Boats is an incredibly endearing docudrama that follows in great detail life upon the canals of Britain and the colourful characters that call it home.

It will be shown at the Uniting Church Whaley Bridge, with tea and cake from 3.30pm. Film screening at 4pm. To reserve tickets contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 07531 982995. Tickets also available on the door on the day.
