Destroyed boat to be replaced

REGULAR readers may remember the report in narrowboatworld of the boat used by the Clear Cut Conservation group being torched and destroyed, but now a new one is to be built.

Mark Harris of the Old Junction Boatyard on the Soar at Syston, has agreed to replace the boat, already having sourced parts for a similar small craft to the one destroyed, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Two years

It took the group two years to restore an old boat for its members to use to keep the waterway and towpath of the Grand Union Canal through Loughborough clean, and they thought all their efforts would cease after their boat was destroyed in an arson attack.

The local community is helping with the cost of the new boat, which it is hoped will be in use before very long.  In the meantime the police are still investigating the arson attack.
