SONIA HOLT, wife of the co-founder of the Inland Waterways Association, Tom Rolt, has been recognised in the Queen's New Years Honours List

Herself an author and campaigner for the country's waterways and  historical buildings, she has been awarded an OBE for her services to industrial archaeology and to heritage.

As regular readers of narrowboatworld will be aware, last year was the centenary of Tom Rolt's birth, and the 91 years old Sonia attributed her enthusiasm to her late husband Tom, keeping his books in print.

His books included the famed Narrow Boat, depicting his journey in Cressy and a biography on Isambard Kingdom Brunel.  Sonia was Tom's second wife.
