'Canal village' to prompt development plans

HOUSE builders Cala want to create a £50 millions development around the Union Canal in  Edinburgh, and have included a 30 berth marina to push the plans forward.

The scheme will of course also include 120 homes around the canal, naming it a 'canal village', Alan Tilbury tells us.

An asset

Sarah Stanger, from the company explained:

"This development will provide a range of high-quality homes, complemented by a spectacular canal basin. We are confident this project will be an asset to Ratho and the surrounding areas."

Richard Millar, British Waterways Waterway Development Manager related:

"Since the Millennium Link project made possible the reopening of the 32 miles long waterway, we have seen the Union Canal become a vibrant destination not just for boaters and anglers but for those visiting to walk, cycle, run or simply enjoy the wildlife or heritage."

It is expected that the berths will be assigned to the houses, which is at present under discussion.
