Body dumped in Selby Canal

THE body of a Chinese man was dumped in the Selby Canal as a result of a dispute over the profit from drugs.

Regular readers may remember the story when the body was first found, but the subsequent trial carried a reporting ban, which has now been lifted.

Life sentences

Three Chinese were given life sentences for the murder of Chen Cai Guan, who had been beaten to death and his body dumped in the waterway after a dispute over profits from a massive cannabis growing operation.

The body was found at Burn Bridge in the Selby Canal in March  2009, wrapped in bin liners, with it being identified a month later.

Illegal immigrant

A post-mortem examination showed that Mr Chen, who entered the UK illegally from Fujian in China in 2001, had been punched, kicked and stamped on.

Police raided the premises after a tip-off from the owner and 1,500 cannabis plants were found, together with evidence of the killing when using dogs specially trained to sniff out blood and human remains.
