IT WAS another narrowboat fire at the weekend that has put a boater in hospital with 50% burns.

The boater, who has not been named, suffered serious burns when his boat caught fire on the Lee & Stort near Harlow, and he had to be transferred to the serious burns unit at Broomfield Hospital.

100% alight

The narrowboat was moored near Burnt Mill on the waterway, and the fire service tell that it was 100% alight when they arrived at the scene, with reference being made to a gas bottle, though the actual cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Altogether around 20 fire fighters attended the blaze, together with the ambulance service and police.
