TWO boaters managed to escape their narrowboat yesterday when it started to sink in the Severn

It was on the East Channel of the river near Westgate Bridge  at Gloucester when the boat started to take in water, with the fire service called to help the stranded couple.

Submerged

They managed to get off the boat as it became submerged, and the fire people secured it from sinking to the bottom, with a spokesman from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue explaining:

"We had a call at around 8.55am where two people were stuck on their narrowboat and it was sinking. They got themselves off, and the service managed to tie the boat up to stop it sinking completely."
