Volunteer canal ranger wanted

BRITISH Waterways is on the lookout for a volunteer ranger who can 'bring that personal touch' to Dewsbury on the Calder & Hebble navigation.

Following on from the recentĀ  Dewsbury Canal Festival and the Future Jobs Fund scheme, British Waterways is now looking to recruit a part time volunteer to work alongside its Regeneration Project Officer. The post has been created to assist with organising events, building stronger volunteer links and leading activities that focus around Dewsbury's waterways.

Ideal

British Waterways Regeneration Project Officer, Rebecca Dent believes the role would be ideal for an outgoing and creative individual who enjoyed mixing with people, explaining:

"We've been working hard to improve the canal's appeal to the people of Dewsbury and encourage the local community to support and champion this fantastic free resource which can be used all year round. We're after someone who's passionate, cares about their local waterway and wants to get involved in preserving their local heritage.

"This is a great opportunity for someone to work in a fun environment making a real difference to their local canal. There's a great chance to develop leadership skills and pick up a broad range of experience and training, as well as meeting new people."
