THIS IS REALLY GETTING RIDICULOUS as yet another paddle failures closes navigation.
This being the seventh in eight days, Keith Gudgin reports.
This time it is the Huddersfield Narrow and its second paddle failure in a week, this time on Lock 24E.
But the last time was on the same lock! So as to it is the same paddle or a different one on that lock is not stated.
All we are told is that the lock has suffered a paddle mechanism failure and that operatives have attended site and established that it will need stop planks putting in place to allow this to be repaired.
Does our picture show the reason for all the failures—a complete lack of maintenance?
Ashton Canal
The other stoppage yesterday, Thursday, was on the Ashton Canal.
With the navigation closed between locks 1 and 18 due to a problem with the cill on the tail gates at Lock 10.
This has lifted out of position.
The repair needs special parts that are now on order.
