DUE TO LONG SERVING MEMBERS together with members of the organising committee having stepped down, this has left too few volunteers to run the Montgomery Canal Triathlon safely and effectively.
Unless new volunteers are forthcoming this very popular event could end, Janet Friend reports.
Urgent appeal
With the organisers having issued an urgent appeal for new volunteers to ensure the triathlon can go ahead.
The event is a important fundraiser for the continuing restoration of the Montgomery Canal and a popular annual celebration of the waterway.
There are a number of tasks that need to be filled, such as contacting suppliers, managing web and social media content, liaising with emergency services, securing landowner permissions, setting up key transition points, and coordinating transport along the route. And of course volunteers along the route.
The 13th event
The event takes place in September with the one last year being the 13th that had been held.
It involves 12 miles cycling from Newtown to Whitehouse, five miles by canoe through Welshpool and 10 miles on foot from Pool Quay to the finish at Bridge 85, Crickheath near Oswestry.
