THERE IS A BOGUS MAN claiming to be an employee of Canal & River Trust who is entering boats illegally.
This is happening on the Lee Navigation between Hackney Wick and Clapton, Keith Gudgin reports.
Claiming to be employee
Boaters have been complaining to Canal & River Trust that a member of the public has been claiming to be trust employee to gain entry into their boats without permission and asking questions.
The individual is described as being of 40 or 50 years old, a black male with short hair and a top knot, and understood the man may be in possession of a stolen boat.
The trust confirms that no member of the Canal & River Trust licence ranger team meets this description, and to be aware that its Licence Rangers would not ask boaters to provide evidence if their licence is up to date as they have access to this information on our licence system.
Remain vigilant
The trust is encouraging all boaters to remain vigilant and to report any incidents to the police.
It has contacted the local police and offered to work with them to increase patrols in the area and speak to boaters.
