BIDFORD BRIDGE OVER THE AVON is to have structural repairs, that will effect vehicular traffic for the next six months.
Then it will open, then closed again, Roger Fox reports.
Major structural repairs
The 15th century bridge is undergoing major structural repairs and stone renovation works over the next six months.
It is expected that scaffolding will be needed and with workers on the bridge both dismantling then replacing the stone work, there will most likely be some stoppages for boats on the river.
It has been calculated that it will take six months for stone masons to dismantle and then rebuild the faces and parapet on the Grade I listed bridge.
And the weather could have an effect on this work.
Second time closed
This will be the second time in two years that Bidford Bridge has been closed.
It being closed for almost five months in 2024 to allow for repair works following an accident which caused significant damage.
It was then a taxi became wedged after crashing into the wall, (pictured) damaging the parapet and leaving it structurally unsafe.
