THE CHESTERFIELD CANAL TRUST is needing maintenance team volunteers.
It having been awarded a grant from the National Lottery Community Fund, to help recruit people to look after the restored sections of the canal.
Two year project
This is a two year project to develop teams of volunteers, with the aim of maintaining and developing the local green spaces, both on the water and the surrounding environment.
There will be a variety of roles, some hands on maintenance, some monitoring the environment’ some conducting surveys and some keeping an eye out for areas that need attention. There will be something for all abilities.
The trust tells there is no need to worry about knowledge or skills—we will train you.
The money arrived before Christmas and it is already booking and starting training, purchasing equipment and putting together a recruitment campaign for new local volunteers.
Taster sessions
It expects to be holding taster sessions and open days in April, with the work programme starting in May. Initially the focus will be the already completed areas around Staveley. In the summer, when the restoration work is finished, it will move on, to the new section.
