IT WAS ON THE 31th OCTOBER that a diesel spillage closed the Chesterfield Canal.

The incident spanning Pudding Dyke Bridge to Dog Kennel Bridge, Keith Gudgin reports.

The trust is currently working closely with the Environment Agency to locate the source of the diesel.

Yet now, on the 17th December, many weeks later, it still has not been contained.

Prevent its spread

Booms have been placed together with absorption pads around the diesel to prevent its spread, with the navigation still closed to prevent boats further spreading the diesel.

The latest information is that the trust is currently waiting for a date from our contractors as to when they are going to attend the site to assist us with the retrieval and disposal of the spill equipment.
