A NEW BRIDGE has been lifted and placed to span the Trent in Nottingham.

NewBridgeLiftedIts the first river crossing over the river in more than 65 years, Janet Friend reports.

Link Trent Basin

The 278ft Waterside Bridge will link Trent Basin in the city and Lady Bay in Rushcliffe. The last river crossing was Clifton Bridge in the 1950s.

It was planned to open in 2023 but work was only started this year due to various delays.

Though the main structure is in place, it will not be until Spring next year that it is opened, for there are ramps, steps and walkways to install.

Cost £18m

The cost of the bridge of £18m has been paid for by grant funding secured from the government through the Transforming Cities Fund.

The bridge will be traffic free as it is a walking/cycling route spanning the river.
