IN ADDITION TO THE KNOWLE LOCKS Customer Service Facility being relocated, so is the Hatton Top Lock on the Grand Union facility being relocated.

Again this is being caused by the government's Simpler Recycling legislation, Keith Gudgin reports.

Separate facilities

And again the reason for its relocation is as all refuse sites are required to provide separate facilities for recycling and general waste.

Unfortunately, the trust tells, it has not been possible to upgrade the Customer Service Facility refuse site at Hatton Top Lock to meet these new requirements. In this case it is due to the low weight limit of the bridge providing access to the site, so standard refuse collection vehicles are unable to reach the facility. Also there is insufficient space onsite to accommodate the four waste containers now required under the new legislation.

To overcome this problem, Canal & River Trust has secured space for the Customer Service Facilities in Hatton Public Car Park, situated between Hatton Locks 42 and 43.

Designated mooring point

A designated mooring point has also been created nearby, and clear signage has been installed to direct users to the new bin compound.

The compound is secured and can be accessed using a standard BWB key.

The change from the Hatton Top Lock facility to the car park will take place on the Monday 10th November when the skip at Hatton Top Lock will be removed.
