FALLEN DEBRIS from the Misterton Wharf Bridge 81 has caused the navigation to be closed.

MistertonWharfBridgeVehicle collided

A vehicle collided with the bridge over the Chesterfield Canal causing its masonry to fall and block the waterway, Keith Gudgin reports.

This occurred yesterday, Wednesday, with our being told a great deal of masonry fell into the navigation below.

The amount of debris in the waterway has caused a navigation closure to be put into place by the Canal & River Trust.

With the trust needing a work boat on site to be able to clear the debris.

A mile from Trent

The Misterton Wharf Bridge is on the Chesterfield Canal just a mile from West Stockwith where it joins the Trent, so at present there is no connection between the canal and the river.
