VANDALS HAVE SLASHED the tarpaulin holding back the water from the breach on the Bridgewater Canal.

This has lowered the level of the water leaving boats stranded and causing flooding to properties, Janet Friend reports.

The  tarpaulin was deliberately slashed using Stanley knives, so a further tarpaulin was fitted to hold back canal water.

But that too has been slashed allowing water to escape again threatening further damage, with Peel Holdings, who manage the canal, telling it is taking action to secure the site more firmly.

Involve three boys

The vandals are believed to involve three boys, aged 11 to 13, who were seen at the site on pushbikes and it is obvious that they knew what they were doing in coming back a second time to destroy the second barrier.

The breach occurred in January of this year, but it has been stated that it will take two years to repair.
