A close call indeed

A WOMAN in a state of shock was hanging on to her sinking car but was rescued just in time.
Her car plunged into the Bridgewater Canal in Stretford after it collided with a van then fell over the bridge then slowly sank below the surface with the woman hanging on, Roger Fox reports.
Off-duty fire-fighter
Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service and the Ambulance Service quickly answered the call but an off-duty firefighter rescued the woman, with the services working it is told with the Bridgewater Canal Company making it all safe. Picture by the Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service.
The bridge was closed to vehicle traffic as the debris was cleared and signs displayed. The rescued woman had been taken to hospital as a precaution.
