IT WAS THE RSPCA to the rescue when four distressed ducklings became trapped on a canal ledge between two locks on the Aston Flight in Birmingham.

The few days old ducklings were huddled together on the ledge being too frightened to take the leap off the high wall, with their mother panicking below, Janet Friend reports.

DucklingsTrappedThen someone saw their plight and rang the RSPCA with rescue officer Baljit Dhamia, soon on hand to retrieve the ducklings and help reunite them.

Collected the four

He managed to reach down from the towpath and collected the four into a container, with their mother circling below, but he them released the ducklings into the canal and a reunion was made, with Baljit telling:

“I managed to capture the four ducklings and took them down to the water’s edge to reunite them with their mum. They were a little bit scared to make the leap, so I gave them a helping hand back to mum before they happily swam off.

“It was lovely to see the family reunited and paddling off down the canal together."

So definitely a happy ending. (Picture courtesy of the RSPCA.)
