Navigation closed as police search for knife in canal

THE LEEDS & LIVERPOOL CANAL is currently closed at Litherland as the police search for a knife used in a murder.

It is thought the knife used to kill could have been thrown into the nearby canal, Keith Gudgin reports.

The woman in her thirties was stabbed to death with the police now searching the canal for the knife that was used as it is thought this was how the knife was disposed.

Navigation closed

Navigation over a nearby section has been closed off as has the towpath, whilst divers continue their work.

This occurred yesterday, Wednesday, with a 34 years old man having been arrested on suspicion of murder and held in custody.

It is expected that the search for the knife will be called-off today should it either be found or not and navigation reopened.
