New pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Trent at Nottingham
THERE is to be a new bridge over the Trent in Nottingham.
Pedestrians and cyclists
This will be for pedestrians and cyclists and is the first bridge built in the city since the 1950s, Roger Fox reports.
Balfour Beatty has gained the £12.6m contract to construct the new arch bridge, that takes up 198 tons of steel.
The 92 yards bridge will cross the river from the north side where the new Trent Basin housing development is taking place to the south side of the river and the sports facilities.
The preparation means the demolition of a warehouse previously used by Flo Skate Park, which will be followed in March by further site clearance.
Start work
Then Balfour Beatty bringing in its equipment, materials and cabins to the site and starting work on fabricating in summer with the whole bridge lifted into place in November. Landscaping, paving and lighting will be undertaken during the winter.
Then eventually the bridge opening in Spring of next year.
