A broken swing bridge a day keeps the boats away

TWO SWING bridges on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal broken in two days.

But what seems worse is that they are the usual ones that break, Keith Gudgin reports.

On Monday of this week it was the Warehouse Swing 87 that failed, then it was under investigation by engineers.

Then on Tuesday it was the Crabtree Swing Bridge 32 that broke and our being told contractors have been informed.

Both these swing bridges have often failed in the past, which gives the impression that either they need urgent overhaul or the contractors better trained.
