The Erewash with its same old problem
THE old problem of course being lack of water.
Again it is the section between Sandiacre Lock 63 and Gallows Inn Lock 67, Keith Gudgin reports.
No excuses
But this time the trust has given none of its usual excuses of vandals, boaters leaving gates and paddles open and the like.
The reason for the drained pounds on the Erewash is badly leaking gates, that has closed various pounds of the waterway so often this year.
During September the Erewash was closed five times through lack of water, three at this particular section.
We are told that efforts are being made to carry out water control to restore the water levels, but this will take some time.
Our cruises
The picture was taken during one of our cruises up the Erewash Canal some ten year ago, showing it has been a constant problem, and yes, the lock below was leaking badly.
We only made it once to Langley Mill, though we cruised it five times, it only being a mile from our former moorings at Sawley Marina.
