A poor start to November
THE first two days of the month saw a poor start for the navigations.
With four closures, as Keith Gudgin reports.
Still getting closures
Though now the official end of the boating season, with fewer boats we are still getting navigation closures.
The Shroppie was closed at Lock 91 on Friday as the silt that was causing problems was being cleared.
Friday saw the Kennet & Avon closed at Seend Lock 18 as the bottom gates would no longer come together to hold water.
The Leeds & Liverpool was closed on Saturday from River Lock 1 (pictured) to Office Lock 2, but this time no reason was given.
Stoppage extended
The Grand Union was closed with Lock 55 needing repair, on Saturday, boats being blamed for striking the lock and causing 'significant damage'. Then strangely the stoppage was extended to Lock 54.
Two closures a day so far this month is not looking good.
