Risk of gate failure
IT'S A NEW reason/excuse from Canal & River Trust for a stoppage.
This applies to Radcliffe Lock 58 on the Soar, Keith Gudgin reports.
We are told that 'Due to the risk of gate failure, Ratcliffe Lock has been closed for the safety of our boaters.'
Not told
What the failure is we are not told, only that it is a 'structural failure' and that the trust's workers are attending the site today to implement extra safety measures and will make every endeavour to ensure it is operational over the weekend, but customer safety remains paramount.
But further work is being planned to keep the lock functioning as normal. Make of that what you will...
Another Grand Union stoppage
Another stoppage today, Friday, on the Grand Union Canal is Lock 44 that has failed.
There is no further information given only again as a 'structure failure'.
