Landslip closes Grand Union Canal

A LANDSLIP has closed the Grand Union Canal at Solihull in Birmingham.

Yet another result of the considerable amount of rainfall over the past months, loosening the earth on embankments, and of course closing the canals to navigation, Keith Gudgin reports.

This landslip, that occurred yesterday, Wednesday, was between Lode Lane Bridge 82 and Dove House Lane Bridge at Solihull in Birmingham.

Dangerously overhanging

The landslip has left several trees dangerously overhanging both the canal and towpath in a dangerous position, owing to the state of the sodden ground.

These are so unstable that both the navigation and towpath are closed.

The trust tells that its contractors have been requested to attend.
