THE recent stoppage at Lock 5 on the Regents Canal, sounds very simple to cure, writes Andrew Parker.

I suspect there was an obstruction on the bottom cill which prevented the gate closing.

Would know what to do

Experienced boaters would know what to do. The use of along shaft or keb would have cleared it quickly. Kebs were kept at locks for just this purpose.

But the only remaining one which I know of is on the Grand Union at Cassiobury Park Lock 76.
