Worcester & Birmingham Canal reopens tomorrow Saturday

THE landslide that caused trees and mud to fall into the Worcester & Birmingham Canal should be cleared tomorrow, Saturday, and the navigation reopened, Canal & River Trust explain.

This occurred at Shortwood Tunnel West Portal on the 19th October, some five weeks ago as a result of Storm Babet, closing the navigation, Keith Gudgin reports.

The landslide also closed the towpath, that will still remain closed for a while whilst the trust decides on its options for repair.

Caused problems

The difficult access caused problems at getting the needed equipment to the site that delayed the work, but all is clear for the navigation to be reopened.

There are still contractors working in the vicinity of which boaters should be aware.
