Adding a winter works!

COWLING Swing Bridge (101) is to be replaced in January, adding to the winter works.

This Leeds & Liverpool Canal swing bridge is to be replaced with a new swing bridge, Keith Gudgin reports.

Whilst this is being undertaken the waterway will be closed from Wednesday 14th February 2024 at 8am until Tuesday 27th February at 4pm, it adding to the winter works,

The heavy lifting that will be required means a crane will be needed, so the waterway has to be closed to ensure the safety of the public and those working on site.

It was in July of this year that is was discovered the bridge had dropped significantly and had to be mechanically moved back into position.

Inspection

During the inspection at that time it was also discovered that the beams under the decking had twisted and corroded.

Hence the need for a complete replacement.
