THE Trent & Mersey and Middlewich waterways have had their problems sorted and reopened.
Woodend Lock (pictured) on the Trent & Mersey Canal was closed due to a defective ground paddle that was damaged.
Repaired
It has now been repaired with the information that it is thought the issue was caused by the paddle coming off the rod, or possibly a problem with the paddle grooves, Keith Gudgin reports.
This means the lock was only working on a gate paddle, meaning boats were having to queue for a considerable amount of time while the lock was filling.
So this needed an urgent repair that was undertaken yesterday, Tuesday with the navigation now open.
Middlewich Branch
Work on Stanthorne Lock (2) on the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal has progressed well, having received all the necessary materials and parts over the weekend.
This has allowed the navigation to be reopened today, Wednesday.
