IT WAS quite a shock for a boater when he pushed the lock beam to open a lock gate and it fell off!
This was at Lock 19 on the North Stratford Canal when he was attempting to open the gate on Thursday.
Closed again
So the North Stratford Canal is closed yet again, this time at Lapworth until either the beam is re-attached, or is in such a condition it has to be replaced, Keith Gudgin reports.
In which case it could be a long stoppage unless one of those temporary structures, as on Lock 27, one of the Soulbury three Locks, is used, as shown in the image by Graham Hardwick.
The waterway was last closed on the 7th of this month when Shirley Drawbridge became inoperable.
LATEST—The beam has been fixed back on and navigation reopened.
