FOR the fourth time the paddles have been left open on Lock 1 on the Leigh Branch of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.
This has closed the waterway through lack of water until more water can be let down feeding the canal, Keith Gudgin reports.
Canal & River Trust has blamed it on 'vandalism... where the paddles have being left open' it draining the above pound.
Closing the navigation
This occurred yesterday, Tuesday the 22nd, and on the 10th of July and twice in June on the 15th and 30th. Each time closing the navigation.
With it being such a regular occurrence it would have been thought one set of paddles would be protected with a lock that can only be opened with a normal 'waterways' key.
