Three stoppages in one day!

EVEN for Canal & River Trust this is exceptionable—three canals closed in one day!

Yesterday. Friday, was a bad day for the trust, with three of its canals being closed, adding to the 20 already having stoppage notices this month, Keith Gudgin reports.

Leaking through paddles

The Birmingham & Fazeley Canal is closed at Curdworth Lock 7, with the reason given as a 'repair' that is due to water leaking through broken paddles.

North Stratford Canal is closed at Lapworth Lock 2 as a gate on the lock has come out of its cup so navigation is not possible. But this time the 'Reactive Response' team are mobilising to set this right as soon as possible providing there are no other problems

Structure failure

The Rochdale Canal has suffered another failure with no water between Tuel Lane Lock to Longbottom Bridge (4). though the trust states—Navigation: Open, Towpath: Closed! the reason given is 'structure failure'.

But the towpath being closed portends the possibility of a breach, though no details are forthcoming.
