Kennet & Avon Canal joins the list of closures

THE Kennet & Avon is the latest canal to join the list of of closures caused by water shortages.
The navigation was closed yesterday, Sunday, from Lock 51 at Wootton Rivers to Lock 60 at Crofton, Keith Gudgin reports.
'Water sources'
The reason is given as 'water sources' with the locks closed until further notice.
The Kennet & Avon is thus added to the 12 canals already closed by water shortages, adding to the difficulty of boaters attempting to find a navigation to take a holiday cruise, including six other closures already this month through other problems.

The closure was intended to last one day—Sunday—but the continuing water shortage has resulted in the section being closed today, with the stated intention of reviewing the situation tomorrow.
