Two metre hole in Leeds & Liverpool Canal bed

A CULVERT has collapsed leaving a two metre hole in a canal bed that looks like being another long stoppage.

The hole has appeared in the Leeds & Liverpool Canal at Bradley between  Hamblethorpe and Bradley swing bridges, Keith Gudgin reports.

Waterway closed

This means the waterway is closed whilst contractors inspect the hole today, Saturday, then discover 'a method of repair' then eventually repair, that in the last two cases of such failures has taken around six months to complete.

A dam will have to be installed so the situation can be inspected.

The culvert carries the Middle Beck stream under the canal via a culvert, that has given way as they are obviously no longer regularly inspected.
