Swing bridge 'restricted' for the week

A MECHANICAL failure to Spencer's Swing Bridge (36) on the Leeds & Liverpool means access is restricted.

The swing bridge at Parbold can only be navigated at 12 noon daily when staff will be available, Keith Gudgin reports.

Operated manually

The staff will operate the swing bridge manually whilst the contractors 'source a repair' to the bridge.

As is now normal, the contractors will take a week to undertake the work to have the bridge working again, with the notice that an update will be provided on Friday 10th June.

Boaters will not be allowed to manually operate the bridge themselves as this cannot be done safely, with boats having to wait until staff arrive.

Failed four times in 12 months

The bridge previously failed  on the 23rd February of this year and on the 17th February and 3rd June last year, making it a total of four times in 12 months, which reflects on the standard of repair.
