Advice was for rising waters

RIVER Canal Rescue comments on the remarks by T. Lang concerning its advice for boaters, with Stephanie responding:

The advice is more for those who are on the boat when waters are rising rapidly and they do not have other options available and is mainly to stop vessels becoming beached or grounding on towpaths and keep the vessel floating.

We of course accept that continual running of the engine is not practical but using it as a tool to keep you safe is something people usually forget in the midst of a situation.

Always a good option

Securing the vessel is always a good option but these ropes and securings have to be able to be adjusted as heights change, we would not recommend beaching a vessel unless it’s a last resort as once beached it can become very difficult to refloat, especially in inaccessible areas.
