A YOUNG woman was left paralysed from the chest down after being thrown off a bridge by a jealous 'friend'.

Emily Holiday. aged 20. was walking home after a night in Solihull when she was grabbed by a jealous friend who threw her over the parapet of a Grand Union Canal bridge onto the towpath below, Keith Gudgin reports.

She suffered catastrophic injuries that left her paralysed from the chest down and confined for life in a wheelchair.

The 17 years old 'friend'—who cannot be named for legal reasons—who had been acting irrationally and jealous towards Emily suddenly scooped her up and threw her over the side of the bridge with the terrified Emily landing on the hard towpath below hearing she claims a 'massive crack’ from her spine on impact.

Would never walk again

Rushed to Birmingham Hospital, she was given the devastating news that she had severed her spinal cord and would never walk again, spending five and a half months in hospital receiving treatment.

The case went to Birmingham Crown Court in April 2019 where the teen admitted to a charge of wounding and was sentenced to a two years youth rehabilitation order. (The information has just been released.)
