Another contractor needed for swing bridge repair

ANOTHER contractor has been brought in to help with the Weaver swing bridge repair.

The Winnington Swing Bridge whose electrics failed on the 25th February is still not repaired with a further contractor brought in in an attempt to rectify the problem, Keith Gudgin reports.

Not able to do the work

Though we are told Canal & River Trust contractors continue to work with the local authority to repair the duct that carried the cables underwater, it transpires they are not able to do so.

It transpires that a further contractor is required to reinstall the duct to the river bed that carries the cables operating the traffic signals.

Whilst repairs remain ongoing, navigation will remain closed; even though narrowboats can easily get under the bridge it is thought they may further dislodge the duct.
