TWO 'sink holes' have appeared on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.

Lock 30EAfter receiving a report yesterday, Sunday, of a pound draining away between Slaithwaite and Marsden, the Canal & River Trust engineers discovered the reason being two sink holes had appeared, Keith Gudgin reports.

Now of course closed

These are between locks 30E and 31E, with the waterway there now of course closed to navigation.

The trust tells us it fencing off the area and looking into the cause.

On past experience, such problems cause long closures as the entire ground has to be made good.
