New Junction lift bridge fails again

Published: Friday, 11 December 2020

THE Top Lane Lift Bridge on the New Junction Canal has failed due to an hydraulic leak.

TopLaneLiftBridgeThe bridge therefore is not available for self operation, but it appears the fault will quickly be rectified as engineers are attending this morning, Keith Gudgin reports.

Recurring problem

This is a recurring problem at this bridge as the same fault closed it in April this year.

The New Junction Canal links the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation with the Aire & Calder Navigation, a wide perfectly straight five miles link that was later built to connect the two existing waterways.

UPDATE:

The bridge is now repaired and open for self operation.
