Delay on Trent & Mersey Canal bridge repair

Published: Thursday, 10 December 2020

THE work on Tupperhurst Bridge (56) on the Trent & Mersey Canal is taking longer than first envisaged.

DanBr56The work was needed to repair the collapsed towpath under the bridge that was started on the 16th of November, but with difficulties in achieving  an effective seal on one of the fabric dams, its start was delayed.

Further delayed

The work was further delayed after it was discovered that there was a section of defective wall which will also need repair whilst the navigation is dewatered.

But It is expected that all the work will be completed in time for Christmas opening, which will be some consolation to the owner of the coal boat who is stuck from getting to Great Hayward by the stoppage.
