Leeds & Liverpool swing bridge failure dilemma

ANOTHER Leeds & Liverpool swing bridge failure causes a bit of a dilemma for boaters.

Unlike Coxhead and Crabtree swing bridges that fail regularly, Hancock's Swing Bridge (9) on the waterway has lasted well, but has now joined the many others and failed, Keith Gudgin reports, so is closed.

Closed for a week

Then came the news yesterday (Thursday) that this swing bridge at Aintree has had an 'operational failure' that had proved worse than expected with the waterway closed for a week as it will 'need extensive repair' with an update promised for next Thursday 3rd September.

It even resulted in boaters either stuck in Liverpool or having booked access being asked to discuss alternative dates and call the North West Customer Support Team.

Now open

But we are informed today by Canal & River Trust that the swing bridge is now open! Though on restricted use.
