Overweight wagons a cause of Crabtree Swing Bridge problems

IT WOULD seem that overweight waggons using the Crabtree Swing Bridge could be a cause of its problems.

I have experienced the problem at Crabtree Swing Bridge on the L&L a few years ago, writes Sam Bennett.

Locking lever

The locking lever would neither pull up nor push down because the lock bar was not in the gate frame.

I was told by the publican of the adjacent pub, a certain Mr Davis, that it happens a lot due to over-weightlimit wagons using the bridge as a shortcut to the nearby industrial estate.
