THE bridges over the Avon and others are to benefit from a £6.3 millions maintenance fund.

Clopton Bridge in Stratford is just one of the bridges, including those in Welford, Bidford and Shipston that will benefit from the cash, Roger Fox reports.

This will be spend on repairs and maintenance of the bridges over the next three years.

Significantly deteriorated

Councillor Jeff Clarke of Warwickshire County Council explained:

“The works to these structures will focus on the significantly deteriorated and damaged stonework of the predominantly multi-span, arch structures that date as far back as the 14th Century and, in several cases, are listed as scheduled ancient monuments that have supported Warwickshire’s transport infrastructure for centuries.”
