Selby Swing Bridge fails again

Published: Friday, 06 December 2019

SELBY Swing Road Bridge has its usual yearly unscheduled stoppage.

The swing bridge at Selby that carries a road over the tidal Ouse is again unable to swing, preventing access for barges on the river, as it fails when closed for road traffic, Keith Gudgin reports.

Occurs yearly

This occurs yearly, as it failed on 19th December 2018, 15th March 2017, 5th February 2016 and 6th November 2015, it taking varying lengths of time to repair.

Its air draught however allows narrowboats and small cruisers access, but not commercial barges plying to and from Goole.

It is reported as being an electrical fault that should be rectified fairly quickly.
