Stone and Rufford still closed

THE Trent & Mersey Canal at Stone is still closed after the lock failure on Monday and the Rufford Branch on the Leeds & Liverpool too, since June.

After draining, once again it has been discovered it is a hole that has caused the stoppage on the Trent & Mersey at Newcastle Road Lock in Stone, but it is not yet known what sort of a problem this will cause, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Complete isolation

It was a failed culvert that caused the closure of the Rufford Branch, and thus access to the Lancaster Canal, but worse the complete isolation of three marinas from the system. The long delay has been caused mostly by lack of access for materials and equipment.
