Lack of stop planks stop repair

Published: Thursday, 23 July 2015

THE repair to Lock 1 on the Leigh Branch of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal is unable to go ahead as there are no stop planks available.

The planks are of course needed to hold back the water so the lock can be emptied allowing repairs to the damaged paddle which is leaking so badly it is wasting water.

Needs replacing

It was over a week ago that it was decided the paddle needed replacing, and will want new parts designing and making, before it can be repaired.

However, there is the possibility that boats will be able to get through the lock for just one hour between 10 and 11am.  It will be next Monday before any further information is given.
