Rochdale Canal water shortage

THERE is a water shortage on the Rochdale Canal that has prompted Canal & River Trust to close the summit pound. with immediate effect, from 4pm to 9am daily.

This is to preserve water levels and minimise the chance of levels getting too low, Keith Gudgin tells us.

The Trust has issued the warning to boaters to check that paddles are fully closed when they leave locks with all gates closed, suggesting boaters try to cruise with good water conservation practices in mind and to share locks where possible

Mooring is available either side of the summit pound.
